Ready for Dubai

Hello girls and boys! 🙂

Okay, the title is not 100% true, my bedroom is still a disaster (I need to clean it), but I’m ALMOST ready to go :).
Let’s start with a quick update about myself; I got my fleet this morning, me and 14 fellow joiners will be trained to operate on A330 + A340 + B777. Actually we are the only group who got the mainfleet, all the others have A380 + B777. To tell you the truth, I was upset at the beginning, but now I’m okay with the mainfleet as well. This is what I got and I’m sure I’m gonna love it, no matter what. 🙂 A380 can wait for me, I’m pretty sure one day I will be crossed trained.
Other thing: I’m extremely busy these days but I’m sure you are not surprised. I could hardly find time to make this post (somehow I wasn’t even in the mood), actually I started writing yesterday. I’m having my last meetings with my dearest and best friends and I also try to spend time at home. Last week (and weekend) was pretty hard for me (as you could read in my previous post) but I’m better now :).  A girl from my final interview team joined last Friday and she said it was the same with her as well – I mean before the joining she was not that much nervous nor sad.

Last Saturday night I went out with my sister and two of our high school friends. First we went to a really nice and cosy bistro where we had long and great conversation :). Later we tried a fancy New York style cocktail bar. I hope one day we can all have a cocktail (or two) in Dubai too ;).
I got a huge luggage from a very good friend of mine (we also have another one at home) so fortunately I didn’t have to spend money on it. On Sunday (or was it Monday?) I started packing. Only three days ago, I sorted all my clothes out, so all I had to do is to grab them and put them into one of my big suitcases. I even bought vacuum bags for a very cheap price which made the whole process easier and less stressful. I could even pack my huge and puffy winter coat (thanks for the vacuum bag), it had room in my luggage.

Clothes for cold weather: 1 winter coat, 3 knitwear, 2 pairs of warm gloves, 1 pair of winter boots, 1 huge and fluffy scarf (big enough to cover half of my body), 3 pairs of fluffy socks and many additional “regular” pairs, 3 pairs of long pants/jeans, 1 pairs of soft slippers

I know, most people don’t take winter clothes to Dubai, but I’m gonna start flying in the end of January/beginning of February and if I get a layover in Europe or some countries of Asia, I will definitely need warm clothes to take with myself, because it will be the middle of winter! European winter can be really cold and at the beginning I’m not gonna earn that much money to buy complete outfits for cold weather in Dubai, so taking some of my winter stuff  it is the easiest way. If I had joined earlier, like in August, I obviously wouldn’t have cared that much about warm stuff.

Clothes to wear in Dubai: 2 maxi skirts, 4-5 dresses, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of long summer pants, 3 blouses, 1 pair of leggings, many T-shirts and sleeveless tops, 2,5 pairs of bikini, 4 pairs of shoes

Yup, I don’t take sandals or flipflops. The pairs I have recently are not in good condition, so I don’t wanna take them. This is something I’m gonna buy once I get there :).

Hair accessories: 3 hair donuts (each in different size), 3 packs of hair bobbles, 1 pack of bobby pins (probably should take more but never mind), 2 boxes of hairpin (this one will last forever, cause each box has 50 pieces), 6×2 pieces of hair net (they say it is hard to find proper colored one in Dubai)

I think I’m quite prepared if it’s about hair necessities. I would highly recommend all the ladies to buy these stuff in Claire’s (if you have in your country), because they have EVERYTHING for reasonable price. I love the bobbles they sell (the brand is Scünci), because these are the most durable bobbles I have ever had in my life. Their slogan is “No damage” which is nothing but true. I’ve been using this brand since last December, and the bobbles I bought that time are still lasting.

Hygiene supplies:

  • Full repertoire of facial cosmetics (makeup remover, cleanser, toner, peeling, black facial soap, ichtyolic concealer, beauty mask, etc)
  • Drugstore necessities (1 bottle of shampoo, 1 bottle of hair balm, 1 huge bottle of shower gel, 2 tubes of toothpaste, 1 roll of cotton pads, 1 box of ear sticks, 2 big boxes of …kmm girls know it, etc.)
  • 6 bars of soaps ( I know it’s crazy, but I’m addicted to soaps, so I simply can’t leave my babies behind)

Some other stuff: My beloved crab shaped pillow, my food processor, 8 pairs of compression stockings, 5 pairs of “regular” stockings (for the service part of the training), 2 boxes of ankle length stockings (11 pairs all together)

Stockings are never enough,  very important accessory for female cabin crew. I insist to wear compression ones on board (if you don’t know why is it important, check online) and due to the recommendation of a cabin crew, I bought  them in Rossmann, because they sell them for very low price and my source said these are not worse than the expensive ones.

I guess I’m well prepared 😀

It’s really hard to believe that I only have 2 nights at home! Like a weekend, this is what I have left. Today I had to say goodbye to a very good friend of mine, but actually it was not that hard than I expected. I know I’m gonna see him again (who knows where) and we always will be friends.

French manicures

Today I got my nails done and you can see the result above. The manicurist girl was very curious about my new life and everything, she even sent me a friend request on Facebook. Somehow I’m still surprised by the reactions of other people. They are all amazed and yes, I’m proud to say “I’m gonna move to Dubai and become a cabin crew”, but on the other hand it also makes me uncomfortable. I’m still not a super star or something like that.  Anyway.

Tonight I meet another friend of mine (she is the one I had the car accident with, and we are not good friends anymore, so it’s gonna be a bit embarrassing for me) and tomorrow  I wanna (actually I have to) finish the packing and clean my whole bedroom. We gonna have a fondue night with my family and I also want to go to the city to have some walk. Who knows when I will be able to do it again? 🙂

  2. Hi Dorottya,

don’t be sad about the mixed fleet (even though I know I would be upset as well 😀 ). I heard they are slowly but surely getting rid of their smaller planes and everyone will be crosstrained very soon, so it’s only a matter of time 🙂 Aaah, I’m so jealous 😀 Enjoy home for the last few hours and have a safe flight! 🙂
